For adults who have been diagnosed with a cataract, a lifestyle lens implant, a type of advanced-technology intraocular lens implant (IOL), may give patients the freedom from glasses or contacts to see at a variety of distances. Some lifestyle lens implants are better for patients that drive more at night while other lenses may be a better fit for patients who spend more time working on the computer or reading.
When you visit one of the four Boling Vision Center locations for your initial cataract exam, you will be asked a series of lifestyle questions about your career, hobbies, daily activities, and what type of visual results you are seeking. In addition, your Goshen cataract surgery doctor and a technician specializing in cataract surgery measurements will perform a series of tests to ensure you would be a good candidate for a lifestyle lens. These results, along with your answers, will help your doctor determine which lens implant will be most beneficial to your lifestyle.
Multifocal, Accommodating and Toric IOLs
These lifestyle lenses allow for clear vision at far, near and intermediate distances, often with little to no need for glasses. These lifestyle lenses can even correct many other vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.
AcrySof ReSTOR® Bifocal Lifestyle Lens Implant
The Alcon AcrySof ReSTOR® IOL is a multifocal lens designed to deliver excellent vision results over a range of distances. The AcrySof ReSTOR lens allows patients to enjoy activities including cooking, reading, watching TV, shopping, golfing, and much more oftentimes with little to no need for glasses.
AcrySof® Toric for Astigmatism
The AcrySof® IQ Toric IOL is a lifestyle lens option for patients with astigmatism. The Alcon AcrySof® Toric lens corrects both the cataract and astigmatism, resulting in greater visual results. The Toric lens implant cannot correct presbyopia and as a result, bifocals or glasses will likely be required for computer use or reading.
AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® Toric IOL
The AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL allows patients the opportunity to eliminate the need of glasses following surgery. This IOL provides enhanced image quality and a full range of vision oftentimes without the need for glasses.
TECNIS® Symfony IOL & TECNIS® Symfony Toric IOL
The TECNIS® Symfony IOL is a lifestyle lens option for patients with presbyopia, and the TENCIS® Symfony Toric IOL is a lifestyle lens option for patients with astigmatism. The Symfony IOL is the first FDA-approved lens that provides a full range of continuous high-quality vision while also lessening the effects of presbyopia by helping people focus on objects closer to them.
